Quando e onde compraste a tua primeira bd?!
Quando tinha 7 anos, em 1975, estava de visita a uns familiares a Great Falls, Montana. A minha avó comprou-me uma bd quando eu estava de cama, doente. Lembro-me de lhe ter pedido um Batman, mas aquilo que ela trouxe foi Jungle Action – Featuring: The Black Panther, número 18. Continua a ser o melhor Batman que alguma vez li.
Que autor de bd, para além de ti, é que gostarias de ser?
Será que Jesse Marsh e Roz Chast tiveram um filho? Eu gostaria de ser o filho do filho desse filho (se esse filho alguma vez tivesse casado com o Jungle Action – Featuring: The Black Panther, número 18, ou com o Bolinha).
Qual é o teu material de desenho preferido? Alguma marca em especial?
Gosto de papel grosso. Mais ainda se for “creme”. Gosto de lápis HB (Stadler “Mars Lumograph”, seja lá o que isso for, e das borrachas também), cadernos Moleskine todos catitas, pincéis (tamanho 2 e 4) de “mistura sintética” (de momento não tenho nenhuma marca em especial, são todos horríveis), Speedball (preto) e tintas Dr. Martin’s (várias cores). E acima de tudo: canetas Uni-Ball azuis.
Onde é que foste jantar fora pela última vez? Seguiste as sugestões dos chefe?!
Ao Phillipe’s, uma velhinha e famosa sala de almoços de Los Angeles, casa da sanduíche em “molho francês”. A sugestão foi “mostarda”, nós seguimos a dica. Oh, espera, jantar?! Fomos ao Dupar’s, que é horrível. A sugestão do chefe deveria ter sido, “vão jantar ao Phillipe’s”.
Ainda tens o teu quarto de adolescente em casa dos teus pais? Está “intacto”, costumas visitá-lo?
Não. Os meus pais separaram-se quando eu ainda era adolescente, por isso o quarto desapareceu.

What comic[s] are you reading now?

Do you have a all-time favorite comic book?
Good Grief, More Peanuts, signed by Charles Schulz.
When and where did you buy your first comic book?
When I was seven, in 1975, visiting relatives in Great Falls (MT). My grandmother bought a comic for me when I was sick in bed. I remember asking for Batman, what she brought back was Jungle Action – Featuring: The Black Panther, #18. This is still the finest Batman comic I’ve ever read.
What comic artist, beside yourself, you would like to be?
Did Jesse Marsh and Roz Chast ever have a baby? I would like to be the baby of that baby (if that baby married Jungle Action – Featuring: The Black Panther, #18, or Tubby Tompkins).
What is your favorite drawing material? Any specific brand?
I like heavy paper stock. I like it even more when it’s “cream” colored. I like “HB” pencils (Staedler “mars lumograph,” whatever that means, plus their erasers), fancy Moleskine sketchbooks, “synthetic blend” brushes (sizes 2 and 4) (no favorite brand at this point, they’re all terrible), Speedball (black) and Dr. Martin’s (var. colors) inks. And, more than anything: blue Uni-Ball pens.
What was the last place you went out for dinner? Did you followed the chef’s suggestions?
Phillipe’s, famous old Los Angeles lunchroom and home of the “french dip” sandwich. The suggestion was “mustard” and we followed it. Oh, wait, dinner? We went to Dupar’s, which was awful. The chef’s suggestion should be “eat at Phillpe’s.”
Do you still have your teenage room back at your parents house? Is it “intact” and do you visit it?
No. My parents split up when I was still in my teens, so that room is gone.
